Dear Parents and Friends,                                                                                               May 17, 2013

Congratulations to the Classes of 2013! Our bright Kindergarteners were honored at our morning Mass today, and we congratulate Darrin Kunkelmann, Isaiah Lintker, Tatum Milburn, Jonathan Nuernberger, Connor Simmons, and Cayden Warford on their great year! Our eighth graders will graduate tomorrow evening at the 5pm mass, and we say goodbye to them today. They will part ways to three different high schools, and we wish them much luck in their futures.  Congratulations to the graduates and their families: Adam Blank, Bailey Gale, Justin Heinen, Rachel Lindauer, Courtney Mehner, Hunter Parker, Anthony Rutter, Samuel Tiberend, and Abigail Wombacher. We wish them all continued success in life, and special thanks to the Gale, Lindauer, Rutter, Tiberend, and Wombacher families for their years of support to St. Agatha School! We will miss you all!!

Yesterday we recognized the accomplishments of all our students at our awards program. It is always rewarding to reflect on their achievements over the year. It often surprises them how much they accomplished, when they hear it all at one time! Thanks for your endurance and diligence in working with us to make the most of your children’s academic year.

PTF Meeting will be Tuesday evening, May 21at 7pm. There is always much business to conduct, and it always results in better planning of events when many people are present for discussion. See you then!

As students clean out their desks next week, we are asking them to donate their used school supplies to the Nicaragua Christian Education Foundation (NiCe), who collects used materials for children in their schools for next school year. If you have things at home you would like to also contribute, they will be picking the items up at school the week after Memorial Day. They will even take backpacks and gym shoes, along with the usual school supply items.

We are looking for a new website developer for our school website. If you or someone you know is interested in helping us create/update a fresh website look, please contact me. Alumnus Brian Fietsam had generously volunteered his services since its beginning, and he has now found himself too busy in his work to devote the time he would like to. We appreciate all he has done for us, and I am sure he will continue to be a great resource to us.

We will again have an entry in the New Athens Homecoming parade in July, and we would like as many of you to join us as possible. Stay tuned for information via email, Facebook, and church bulletin. New t-shirts will be available soon, with orders placed via email, at weekend masses, at the church picnic, or at the school office. All students, past, present, and future, are welcome!!

Attention, Athletes! The Athletic Banquet will be held on June 6, with doors opening at 6:30, and the banquet beginning at 7pm. Please bring a finger food to share, and if students have any uniforms, they must be turned in by this night. Put student’s name on it, in a bag, and either drop it off at the school office or bring it to the banquet.

In the line of sports, several items of interest were sent home during the week, as we received them. Soccer registration for next fall with St. Joseph in Freeburg is due by May 22, so get those in as soon as possible. In addition, several flyers about summer camps at New Athens High School were given to the appropriate age students. It is time to form the camps, so let them know ASAP if your child will be participating.

As our Parish picnic approaches, we ask your support by both working and attending – our parish depends on this event to further its mission, and besides, it is usually a great night of food, fun, and visiting. The picnic committee is asking for young people in grades 3 and up to sign up to work shifts for clearing tables during the meal in the hall. The shifts are

4-5:30, 5:30-7, and 7-8:30.  Please call Jen Milburn to sign your student up!

There will be one more newsletter for the school year, since we have a full week of school next week. The summer calendar will be included, which highlights a few important dates for both the school and the parish, so stay tuned!

In your folder today are the following items:

New Athens Library Summer Program flyer

                Parish rummage Sale flyer

New Scrip Schedule for the summer

Congratulations to Adam and Abby Blank, our Scrip free dress winners for this week. It came a little late for Adam, but I am sure Abby will enjoy it! Scrip workers for the upcoming weeks are:

Sat., May 18         Rausch & Voelkel                                               Sun., May 19         Rutkowski & D. Simmons

                 25        Blank & Haubrich                                                             26         Causey & Wombacher
