Charlotte NewboldCatholic education has always been important to me, from my days as a student of St. Mary’s in Carlyle and Mater Dei High School, to being a parent when my children attended St. Agatha School, and now to being principal here.

Although my career plan was not to be a teacher, I was asked by my pastor Fr. Dean Braun, in 1987, if I would consider teaching part time at St. Agatha’s. I accepted the offer and discovered quickly how much I enjoyed being around children and motivating them to learn new things. I have been at St. Agatha School ever since, as a teacher, and now in my 13th year as principal.

My husband Steve and I have lived in New Athens for 33 years, raising a family of four. Jill, our oldest daughter, lives in New Orleans with her husband JJ Polk and daughter Sadie. Lisa lives in New Athens with her husband Bryan Hager, and they have two children – Nora, age 4, and Benjamin, age 1. Our son, Jeff, has just returned to the area with a job transfer, after living in Chicago. Cassie and her husband Aaron Parker live in Kansas City, Missouri.

I enjoy traveling to visit our children, and we all love spending time together as a family, especially with our grandchildren.
